Career education at the grade 5 level focuses on a couple of different things. First, how public identity is influenced by our personal choices and decisions. Second, looking at strengths and abilities to identify goals. Third, that to be a good leader, you must listen to and respect the ideas of others. Fourth, that family and community can be a source of support and guidance when making decisions and/ or problem-solving. Finally, that by creating good work and learning habits now, they can contribute to short and long-term success personally and in a future career. These focuses are pulled directly from the Careers Education BC curriculum.
Below are a few resources to help discover possible careers in the future.
WorkBC has career quizzes that you can take to see what jobs may be good for your strengths and abilities. Remember, this does not mean you have to do this career!
WorkBC has a number of career profiles you can explore. It starts with general categories with job titles under that category. You can then select a career and it will take you to a page that describes the career in detail, including wages, schooling required, and more!
Skilled Trades BC is a platform for people to discover different careers within trades. Like WorkBC, this website allows you to explore different trades and careers within that trade. Once a career is selected, it too describes the career, training, etc. required.
